About Business

Originally known as Victoria Park, Begum Hazrat Mahal Park (now frequently listed as Begum Hazrat Mahal Globe Park) is a historic memorial park in the heart of Lucknow’s Hazratganj/Qaiserbagh area. It was renamed in 1962 to honor Begum Hazrat Mahal, the wife of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah, who was a pivotal leader during the Indian Rebellion of 1857.

History and Significance

The park serves as a tribute to the "Begum of Awadh," who seized control of Lucknow and led rebel forces against the British after her husband was exiled.

  • The Memorial: The center of the park features a grand marble memorial crowned with a canopy. It houses a marble tablet engraved with the Coat of Arms of the Awadh royal family.
  • Historical Evolution: Built in 1862 and dedicated to Queen Victoria, the park's function shifted entirely upon its renaming on the 15th anniversary of Indian Independence (August 15, 1962).
  • Cultural Hub: Historically, the park grounds have been used for Dusshera celebrations (Ramlila), bonfires, and the prestigious Lucknow Mahotsav exposition.

Atmosphere and Features

The park is spread over approximately 112 acres and is described by visitors as a "tranquil oasis" that offers a quiet escape from the bustle of the city center.

  • Landscaping: It is known for its meticulously manicured lawns, tall shady trees, and vibrant flowerbeds, making it popular for morning yoga and meditation.
  • Recreational Amenities: The grounds include stone walkways, a play area with swings for children, and several fountains that are typically illuminated in the evening.
  • Wildlife: It is a favorite spot for local birdwatchers, and the park is noted for being a dog-friendly space.

Visitor Information

  • Timings: Generally open daily from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM (though some sources suggest starting as late as 8:00 AM).
  • Entry Fee: Most recent records list an entry fee of ₹10 to ₹15 per person.
  • Location: Rani Laxmi Bai Road, Hazratganj, Lucknow. It is situated within walking distance of other major landmarks like the British Residency and Kaiserbagh Palace.
